With a view to maintaining the delicate balance between the need for additional housing in a rural area and preserving the natural beauty and resources, we propose ....

1. All housing within Mourne Area of Natural Beauty (AONB) should be developed within the strategy for ongoing environmental needs
2. All housing within Mourne AONB should comply with directives set down by Mourne Heritage Trust
3. All new building should NOT be engaged until a full and comprehensive consultation has taken place with Mourne Heritage Trust and local residents.
4. Replacement dwelling should reflect the structure and size applicable to the original building
5. Materials used on exterior building work should compliment the surrounding landscape
6. Ongoing practices of generating large, two-storey dwellings within Mourne AONB should be suspended immediately.

There have been identified cases where large, unauthorised dwellings have been constructed within Mourne AONB, creating dissent with local residents who are restricted in developments to their existing homes, as well as the ongoing interference with environmental characteristics such as water courses and widlife.

This ecological manipulation, in the name of community development in a recognised area of natural beauty, must stop.

The ongoing strategy to form a National Park in the Mourne Area must be supported by the empathic development of new structures in this location.
